The Blob (1988) Screening + Q&A with FX Legend Tony Gardner
There’s nothing quite like 80s practical gore on the big screen —especially when you get to hear how the monsters were made.
On Thursday, April 16th at 7:30 PM, Screamfest is heading to the LOOK Dine-In Cinema in Glendale to celebrate one of the most effective horror remakes of all time: the 1988 version of The Blob. We are incredibly excited to announce that special makeup effects artist Tony Gardner will be joining us in person for a post-film Q&A!
Building on the foundation of the iconic 1958 original, this version takes the "gelatinous substance" to terrifying new heights with some of the best practical effects the 80s had to offer. When a meteorite crashes outside a small town, high school students Brian (Kevin Dillon), Meg (Shawnee Smith), and Paul (Donovan Leitch) are the first to encounter a deadly, flesh-melting menace that begins growing uncontrollably through the town's sewer system.
It’s a masterclass in sci-fi horror suspense, and seeing those massive practical set pieces on the big screen is an experience you can't get at home. Whether you grew up on the original or you're a fan of 80s gore, come out and see why this story remains a genre staple.
