Feature Films
- Feature-length (40 minutes or longer) narrative films completed after Jan 1, 2024 that have not screened publicly in the LOS ANGELES COUNTY region prior to SHFF25.
- Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening (including cast and crew screening), broadcast, distribution, or exhibition before October 7, 2025.
- Feature films accepted to participate in the SHFF25 will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by Festival programmers, in their sole discretion.
Short Films
- Short-length (under 40 minutes) narrative and animated films that have not screened publicly in the LOS ANGELES COUNTY region prior to SHFF25.
- Films must have been completed after January 1, 2024. Competing short films must be no more than a year old at the time of the festival in October 2025. Short films older than this time frame can still screen out of competition during the festival.
- Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening (including cast and crew screening), broadcast, distribution, or exhibition before October 7, 2025.
- Short films selected to participate in SHFF25 will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by festival programmers, in their sole discretion.
