Hidden Mother
Eleanor, a 19th century business woman, arrives at the family estate of her latest client where she discovers a deeply unsettling secret. As the story of this troubled family reveals itself, Eleanor involuntarily becomes entangled, and will have to play a crucial part in its conclusion. Eleanor is forced into a moral dilemma: will she act out of fear, or will she do the honorable thing?
Hidden Mother is a psychological horror set in England during the heyday of the Victorian era. Class society held the country in its grip. The average Briton had only one goal: to achieve the highest social status in order to be able to lead a bearable life. There was no room for others on that path. After all, charity and neighborly care could easily get in the way of personal ambition.
The film deals with themes surrounding post natal depression, class society, the patriarchy, and a remarkable historical phenomenon called hidden mother photography.
