Publicity & Distribution Guide
📢 Publicity: Building The Buzz
The buzz starts with you!
Promoting your screening is an essential part of your success at Screamfest. While the festival's publicist promotes the event as a whole, it is your responsibility to create excitement for your specific screening time.
Promotional Checklist:
- Genre Press: Reach out to horror websites, bloggers, and podcasters.
- Social Media: Tag @Screamfest so we can share your posts to our community.
- E-Blasts: Notify your network, cast, crew, and supporters of the ticket links.
- Creative Outreach: Think outside the box—guerilla marketing, unique trailers, or cast interviews.
Note for Filmmakers with PR: If you have a publicist, they should utilize their media contacts to drive coverage. After all, that's what you're paying them for!
💰 Distribution Strategy
For those seeking distribution, the screening is your pitch.
There is nothing like a packed, enthusiastic audience to showcase your film's commercial potential. Serious buyers want to see the audience reaction firsthand.
The Golden Rule:
Do not send out screener links until after your festival screening. Encourage buyers to attend the theater to experience the film exactly how it was meant to be seen.
Already have a distributor?
Congratulations! Take advantage of this opportunity and reach out to them. Your screening is a powerful promotional tool for them as well—ask them to help get the word out.
