The gold chain he bought the same day is missing. The Sheriff orders Melchior the Apothecary, who can talk to the dead, to investigate the crime. The clever young man discovers that the murdered knight was looking for a mysterious "Prisoner of Tallinn" and clues lead to the Dominican monastery. A terrible series of crimes is unleashed -anyone who comes into contact with this secret is in danger. At the same time, the apothecary has doubts about his apprentice, who seems to be hiding something...

In hell, labor is inexpensive, and the multinationals of the living world have found a profitable way to subcontract unpleasant tasks. Séverine, dead for 30 years, works in the customer service department of a large e-commerce company with the hypothetical promise of going to heaven if she works hard. Her only daily pleasure is to follow her son's orders as they are placed and to see him grow up through the purchases he makes. One day, her son dies in his turn but leaves for heaven. The contact is lost. Séverine will do everything she can to skip the steps in a company dehumanized by its hierarchy and get her ticket to heaven.
