I'm a filmmaker and commercial director from Miami, FL. I graduated from the University of Miami in 2014 with an MFA in Directing. This is my first narrative film. NASH is a story about an isolated, lonely boy’s attempt to find and confront the monster who has killed his mother. When he looks to his father for support, Nash finds him struggling as well, but not as Nash expected. The story of a boy who is “othered”; a boy who doesn’t understand himself, and feels alienated, spoke directly to me because as a neurodivergent person with combined-type ADHD, I have felt othered, confused, afraid, and angry throughout my life. ADHD is genetic, and my 3-year-old son, Elliott, shows early symptoms. Now, as a dad, I understand I would do anything to prevent this happening to my son – much like Nash’s dad, George. Experiencing the world of Nash from both perspectives (father and son), my personal history drives my directorial aesthetic: I believe that truthful stories are fragmented and obtuse. There are no magic bullets or clearly lit paths. A world like this can only be understood in pieces, shrouded in mystery and subject to interpretation. This is embodied through surrealism, dream logic, and ambiguity, work that embraces the quest for understanding as a beautiful part of the human experience, even if answers never come. Read less
