He was an executive producer on the 2010 version of The Crazies starring Timothy Olyphant. Romero also served as an executive producer on the 2012 documentary Into the Dark: Exploring the Horror Film. Romero has contributed to several video games, including Call of Duty: Black Ops. The legendary father of the modern zombie movie died in his sleep on July 16, 2017 at the age of 77.
