Carter Smith is a writer, director and photographer who grew up in
rural Maine before moving to New York City at the age of 17. His
career started in the world of photography, shooting fashion images
for magazines like W, VOGUE, I-D and GQ.
After years spent photographing celebrities like Julia Roberts, Brad
Pitt and Nicole Kidman for various commercial projects, he created ALL
THE DEAD BOYS dot com as a more personal creative outlet. A place to
explore the murky line where the beautiful and the horrific meet -
without having to worry about clients or agencies or publicists. A
place where no story was too dark.
In 2006 he wrote and directed his first short film, BUGCRUSH which won
the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film festival. His feature film
directing debut was THE RUINS for Dreamworks Entertainment. Smith’s
second feature JAMIE MARKS IS DEAD, premiered at Sundance in dramatic
competition and went on to play festivals such as Sitges, Outfest and
Deauville. He directed the queer slasher MIDNIGHT KISS for Blumhouse
and Hulu and recently completed production on the coming of agehostage-
roadtrip-thriller THE PASSENGER for Blumhouse and epix.
SWALLOWED is the very first ALL THE DEAD BOYS feature film, and marks
a return to the dark and disturbing world of small town Maine where
BUGCRUSH took place.
