Gina Yull graduated with an M.F.A. in Film and Television from Chapman University . She then followed the tried and true agency route at Paradigm. Her time there helped her rediscover her passion for creating so she became the producing director’s assistant on the Spectrum series, L.A.’s FINEST for season 1. A true hustler by nature, she is was determined to drop the word assistant from her future credits, so she started to focus on her own projects. She was inspired to write The Powers That Be during the 2020 quarantine when interest politics and paranoia seemed to increase exponentially. She got the opportunity to make this short when she was chosen as a Black Magic Collective First Frame Initiative fellow and made sure that diversity was both present on screen and behind the scenes. She hopes to continue this type of representation with all her future work along with both educating and terrifying audiences. Read less
