Angelita Mendoza is an award-winning, Mexican-American film director based in New York City. Her passion for film started at her father’s video stores when she was a child. They became her film school. Angelita’s short film The Last Light screened at 9 festivals in 4 countries, including the prestigious New York Film Festival, San Diego Latino Film Festival, and Hollyshorts. The Last Light has also been licensed for Cine Sony, ShortsTV, Miniflix, and others. She won the best director award at Female Voices Rock. Angelita’s 1-minute short film, You Deserve It, which showcases a day in the life of an immigrant in the U.S., won the Grand Prize at the Moët Moment Film Festival. Angelita’s 3rd short film, Great America, premiered at the Oscar qualifying festivals, Urbanworld. It has also screened at Reel Sister of the Diaspora, Official Latino Film Festival, New York Latino Film Festival, and the Manchester Film Festival. I'm interested in the human condition and having a visceral experience when I'm in a dark movie theater. Genre films have always been the most creative way to give an audience a bit of escapism while subtly delivering messages about social issues, the political climate, and the human condition. The good, the bad, and the horrific.
